Why I'm Optimistic About Tomorrow and About Our Country
This Is It: Do Whatever You Can To Preserve Democracy and D.C. Home Rule!
On Saturday, the Harris campaign said that 807,000 Pennsylvania voters got a knock on their door. I’m proud to say more than 1,000 of those knocks came from readers of this email list, and that we likely got close to 1,300 door knocks on Sunday. Tonight, you can join us to call PA voters as part of a phone bank right here in D.C. at Brookland’s Finest starting at 6 p.m. And if you want to go to PA or make phone calls tomorrow, let me know!

Here’s why I am optimistic about tomorrow: As you’ve probably read by now, Pennsylvania women are fired up to vote for Harris—and that includes registered Republicans and independents. When Rikki and I met Grace, she told us she’s been a registered Republican in Shippensburg her whole life. And she’s voting for Kamala Harris, even though she thinks Democrats give “too much free stuff.” She identifies with Republicans like Liz Cheney, and she’s disgusted by Trump’s comments and behavior. She says many of her neighbors, especially Republican women, are just not voting for Trump by either voting for Harris or not voting for President.
The gender divide is real, but there were plenty of men who have had enough of Trump, too. Barry, who served in the military, said that Trump’s actions on January 6 were a deal breaker for him. I heard that from almost every veteran I spoke with. Richard told us that he’s tired of Trump and Fox News tearing his family apart. “I do my own research,” he said. He said he can’t even talk to his brother about the election, and it frustrates him. I can’t emphasize enough how much we heard this from Pennsylvania voters. They are tired of the toxicity and divisiveness and hate.

Here’s my proposal for dealing with election anxiety: Take actions to get the outcome you want until you can’t do anymore, then worry! We’re down to the last 30 hours till polls close, and this is when infrequent and undecided voters are making up their minds. You can impact their thinking and Tuesday’s outcome with these actions:
You can phone bank tonight at Brookland’s Finest. RSVP so Elissa can send you info to make your time as productive as possible!
You can jump in the car and help on the ground in PA tomorrow! Shout out to Todd, Anna, Leonard, Liz, and others who are doing that! Elissa can hook you up with PA Dems out-of-state coordinators or precinct captains in Shippensburg and Shrewsbury.
Two quick final thoughts:
We’ve been able to accomplish so much as a group, much more than we could do individually on our own! Many of you have told me that you were thinking of door knocking and phone calling but hadn’t taken action yet, and these emails made taking that action just a little easier to do. And then your actions encouraged your friends and family to door knock or make phone calls, too! The multiplier effect is real, and again, I’m so proud of all our efforts.
The PA voters in York, Franklin, and Cumberland counties, just like us, want to make their communities and this country a better, more just and fair society. When we got a voter at the door, so many were excited to talk about the issues and share their thoughts. It saddened me that so many in PA felt afraid and scared to talk with their neighbors about these important things. And we need to talk more about how the economy impacts working families!

Hope to see you tonight! And if you haven’t voted yet, see you at the polls tomorrow!
Amazing exactly what I needed to hear! Hello from canvassing in WI!
